Potential client questions:
1. what is the main USP of your product?
Answer: The main USP of my magazine is a 5% partnership between the magazine and the venue of each edition. This means that the selected venue gets 5% of profits earned from that edition. Moreover each edition will also include a jump queue ticket that allows free entry for readers.
2. What happens if everyone attending a concert reads your magazine?
Answer: I think that is an unrealistic situation, however if this were to happen the venue would still make money from the bar, and selling merchandise. Similarly, the venue would still make the 5% profit as everyone attending the concert bought a copy of the magazine.
3. How will you ensure students can use their discount?
Answer: when purchasing the magazine, whether that be online or in stores, The student will be required to show their student card- such as NUS card, if the student has a UNiDAYS account, they will need to show their id from the app settings. The student discount automatically allows 10% off the original price.
4. Why did you chose to have your magazine in both online and print format?
Answer: as my primary target audience are teenagers, I feel it would benefit the advertising process of my magazine to have an online presence. Similarly it requires the least amount of effort from my target audience as they can just stumble upon the adverts on daily social media apps, such as snapchat, instagram and facebook.
5. What inspired you to choose indie music as your genre?
Answer: When we were told about this coursework, I was instantly directed to indie music, the reason for this is that indie music is so powerful and can amplify a persons emotions to increase the amount of endorphins released into your brain, especially when heard live, so as well as focusing my magazine on indie music, I'm also going to focus it on live indie performances.
6. How many fonts are you going to use in your magazine?
Answer: I will be using 3 fonts for my magazine, as I want to have as many visuals as possible. Personally I am more drawn to magazines that have bold visuals within the writing than a magazine that has more columns than pictures. The two fonts that I will be using for my masthead and subheadings are scratchy fonts to depict the visual of what the term feedback sounds like, whereas the font I am using for the main body is slightly softer, and easily eligible. I don't want to use too many fonts as I feel like that would be overbearing to the reader.
7. How will you ensure your magazine stands out from competition, such as NME magazine?
Answer: NME Magazine are an indie rock magazine based around various locations in the UK, they produce their editions online only and are free of charge for the public, whereas my magazine is available in both online and print form and costs £3.50 per edition ( excluding subscription deals and student discounts). Similarly the target audience for my magazine is significantly smaller in comparison to that of NME. The age range for both magazines is also different, I feel like NME would appeal to the older generation who grew up with indie rock legends such as Nirvana and Radiohead, while my magazine appeals to the ages of 16-19 and 20-25.
I will ensure my magazine stands out from competitors by including all different kinds of indie music- there are many branches off of the indie genre, such as pop, rock and folk. This then gives me a wider reading audience in comparison to NME.
Corrections and changes made based on peer feedback:
Make sure I test my powerpoint before presenting it- as features used on keynote will not show up on slide share or Microsoft.
Screenshot all fonts and images to ensure they are on my presentation
Change mood board to more relevant and less famous artists. eg; swap The Kooks with The Hunna.
Use less text in the presentation and more visual cues.
Have a strong idea of the magazine idea before I do the pitch to ensure I don't go off on a tangent.
